This is wonderful! I love your Amelia characterization, how she's settled in her life but still has her element of prickliness as well as kindness. And the bonus Max and bonus Sam/Max is delightful, including the innuendo. It's something I'll always regret, that canon never used the possibilities of having a vet in its world. Hunter networks would make so much more sense if they incorporated more consultants in other fields, and it would have been nice if Sam and Amelia could have stayed friends.
I am all in favor of having hunters show up on Amelia's doorstep with cryptids not just every five years, but even oftener.
