Gah! This was so worth the wait. Gorgeous writing, and what you did with the prompt is perfection.
It's like you saw into my head, too, into my heart. This Dean is my Dean, it's Sam's Dean--it's the Dean who constantly burns for Sam, who needs his brother close to him in order to feel whole and alive, but at the same time thinks that Sam deserves better. The Dean of desperate contradictions. The Dean who wants to be loved by his brother in the same all-consuming way that he feels. (And Sam does, of course.) I also love how possessive Sam is of Dean here, just as he should be.
This is probably my favorite bit: Never apart from Sam in his whole life, the time without him has been like the gap between dying and dead, the slow bleed out, while this evil thing in Dean stokes higher and hotter until the spark he has for Sam starts to devour him whole.
