Title: Cicero
Pairing: Dean/Cas
Rating: PG

Cas glanced around the room, his eyes searching. Dean was nowhere in sight.

Typical he thought.

Dean always seemed to disappear – leaving Cas sitting awkwardly in a booth. Waiting. He glanced around the bar, wondering why Dean had insisted on coming to this particular place. He hadn’t noticed any demonic activity in Cicero, but Dean had insisted. Cas stared into his nearly empty glass, remembering last night. All he had done was put his hand on Dean’s face. He had seen a thousand emotions wash over Dean. Panic, confusion, anger, but there was something else. Cas knew there was more behind that. Dean had left their rented motel room for the bar, and eventually Cas had followed. Dean had seemed edgy, but not any more than he usually was. In his blue jeans and white shirt, he practically made Cas’ eyes burn. He continued to watch the ice clink around in his glass, vaguely listening to the music that was playing.

Black tears are falling down her face
And I am wrong
Black tears are falling and she won't say what I've done
She's sitting here beside me, then she is gone
Black tears are falling, falling
Black tears are falling, falling

Losing Lisa
Losing Lisa
Losing Lisa
And there's nothing I can do

Panic flashed in his eyes as he had a sudden realization of where Dean was. Who he was with. His throat caught, lips tightened, and beads of sweat formed at the back of his neck. He walked quickly to the street, ignoring the rain. Running down the street, he turned, and saw them in the yard. Lisa was turned away from Dean, her face in her hands. Cas’ stomach dropped.

Damn,he thought to himself.

Drawing closer, he saw the raindrops unable to mask Lisa's tears. He heard her sob.

"I can't be with you - you know I can't!"

Cas watched the emotions fly over Dean's face. . .sadness, confusion, and. . .fear. . . Cas turned his head, knowing his own face was reflecting those same emotions. Dammit. Why hadn’t he watched Dean more carefully?
"I'm not the one!" Lisa continued, turning back to Dean, "You can't lie to me anymore. To yourself! To anyone!"

Panic shot up Cas’ spine as Dean grabbed Lisa’s hands.

"But you are. . .you are. . ." Dean said haltingly, his voice shaking. Lisa looked up and saw Cas. Her face twisted in sorrow and pain. She had met Cas the last time Dean had been in town. When the demons had found Lisa again, Dean and Cas had worked together to save Lisa and Ben – but in that time, her memories of Dean had come back. And so had Dean’s.

“I’m not,” she said, her voice hitching as she pulled her hands away from him.

Cas desperately wanted to look away, but couldn’t. He was frozen. Terrified. He caught Lisa’s glance. Despite the falling rain, Cas could see her tears continue. Her dark eyes return to Dean.

“I’m not,” she repeated softly. “Dean, I’m not your happily ever after. And you aren’t mine.” She smiled wryly. “I deserve that. But it’s not you. It can’t be you. Someone else owns your heart.”

Cas’ eyes widened involuntarily as he tried to keep his face still. Dean stared at her in disbelief. He stumbled back and sank to the chair on the porch, his face in his hands. Lisa looked at Cas. He met her glance.

“Lisa. . .” he started, but she stopped him.

“Take care of him Cas,” she said, placing his hands on Dean’s hunched shoulders. “He is a good man. He needs all the love you can give him.” Cas held her gaze for a moment, and nodded, cautiously. Gently, she touched Dean’s hair. He looked up at her, his green eyes drowning in a sea of emotion.

“Don’t lose him,” she said.

Dean slumped back, steadied only by Cas’ hands on his shoulders. Cas strengthened his grip on Dean as they both watched Lisa turn and walk down the street, hunching her shoulders against the rain.

Thank you very much for this fic ♥ It's very bittersweet.
Poor Lisa, but at least it's a happy ending for Dean and Cas.
It also leaves the end open to interpretation for what is gonna happen to those two. :)

This is so bittersweet and lovely. I love that Castiel is a pillar of emotional support for Dean.
